Primary week in KS, what is a Libertarian to do?
Haven't written for a while on this side of the brain, so thought I would throw a few thoughts out about the upcoming primary, and elections in general.
As a registered Libertarian, I am not eligible to vote in either the GOP or the Dem Primary this week. This is too bad, as had I known that the Red Star had written such a blistering editorial against Kris Kobach for Governor, I would have changed my registration to the GOP. I won't link it, but it was pretty horrendous. Doesn't matter, it just the primary, but does set up the general election in November.
So, passing the Primary, who does one vote for in the general election? The Republican, though they have never lived up to what they campaign on? Or the Libertarian, that has nearly no chance of winning, and more than likely will siphon votes from the Republican, thus making a Democrat competitive? I won't support financially most from either national party. I can't. Democrats have all but handed the GOP control politically of the national government, and yet the GOP can't seem to stop pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory. At this point, the GOP needs to get over their anti-Trump feelings, and support those candidates that are Trumpians. Whether the President wants to really clean house or selectively so seems unclear at best, but those that support Trump are mostly non career politicians that are in the mood to drain the swamp.
It all comes down to Judges, unfortunately, and we were handed a reminder this week with the DC Circuit ordering the Administration to reinstate DACA. A Judge is ordering a President, who was properly elected to end DACA and build a wall, to enforce an Executive Order issued by his predecessor.
A Judge thinks that an Executive Order cannot be canceled by another Executive Order. Are you kidding me? Had I been the DOJ (which needs to have its entire upper echelon fired and replaced) I would have argued for getting rid of the order by simply reading transcripts of President Obama saying that he couldn't implement DACA by an EO.
Putin and the Russians have got to be laughing their tails off at us. They have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams in disrupting our electoral process, seeding doubt in the validity of it from now on. And who do we have to thank? Why, the Democrats of course, as well as the Media (I know, redundant). They have hounded this so much that they will probably lynch Mueller if he reports anything other than impeachment for Trump, all the while serving in their roles that Lenin was dubbed "Useful Idiots".
What few will say is that the Russians have been involved in our elections for years, trying to sow distrust. The difference is that this time it appears to be the Democrats that were harmed by this, thus their crying foul. A simple phishing email and bam. Want to know something else?
We have been doing the same thing. The US Government has interfered in any number of elections worldwide. This is what governments do, unfortunately. They shouldn't, but they always have, and for power will always do so.
While a discussion of racism would merit its own blog post, I did want to touch on a few things tonight.
Our country is rushing towards a civil war. Maybe even a real one. For a group of people to be paired with the Klan and the Nazis because they supported Trump is ridiculous. It wasn't Trump that went into black communities trying to speak in a certain accent, to draw people in, it was the Clintons. It wasn't Trump that has advanced policies that say "because (fill in the blank race) is too stupid to get into (this school) or get (this job) we need to skew the scale so that they get a preference. That is what preferences mean, FYI. Some might mean well, I suppose, but programs should be analyzed for what they do, not for their intentions. Institutional racism is illegal, (except the preferences part) and is not to be tolerated (including the preferences part)
Individual racists, on the other hand, are very few, and unfortunately, will always exist. No law can eliminate them. Better is for them to be seen for what they are, so that all will know. We will find that most people that support Trump are not racists, not sexists, and certainly are not Hitler reincarnated (nor is Trump). When people are willing to accept that, perhaps we can have a discussion.
Some equate the bombast that Trump uses towards the media to the references of Hitler and Nazis, and the Klan, used and tolerated by the left. Not the same. How many reporters have to have protection because of the threats at Trump rallies? How many reporters have been shot at by disgruntled, deplorable, gun owners? Not equal. And while I don't agree with the President tweeting his fingers off, there is also a certain part of me that smiles when I see how they are played.
