1913-2015 RIP? winds of change with the Boy Scouts.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is deeply troubled by today’s vote by the Boy Scouts of America National Executive Board. In spite of a request to delay the vote, it was scheduled at a time in July when members of the Church’s governing councils are out of their offices and do not meet. When the leadership of the Church resumes its regular schedule of meetings in August, the century-long association with Scouting will need to be examined. The Church has always welcomed all boys to its Scouting units regardless of sexual orientation. However, the admission of openly gay leaders is inconsistent with the doctrines of the Church and what have traditionally been the values of the Boy Scouts of America. As a global organization with members in 170 countries, the Church has long been evaluating the limitations that fully one-half of its youth face where Scouting is not available. Those worldwide needs combined with this vote by the BSA National Executive Board will be ca

Random Thoughts

Phil is blowing off steam today, so be forewarned. Some very interesting polling data recently.  An AP poll finds that while a plurality support gay marriage nationally, they also find that by a two to one margin, the public also supports the rights of wedding affiliated businesses, (bakery, photography, flowers) to not perform services for gay weddings, if they feel they are violating their religious beliefs.  The poll does not support outright discrimination, rather, it supports choosing not to participate in the ceremony/celebration  That is a surprise.  It turns out that the first right listed in the Bill of Rights trumps in people's minds the made up right of universal marriage.  Two to one! Planned Parenthood, caught living up to everything it was founded on, namely genocide, apparently is also running an ebay shop on body parts.  This is something that should enrage everyone.  And, more importantly, it is a stark admission by the pro aborts that these are living human ti

Individuals are irrelevant. Only the collective

Treyvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Gardner, Freddie Gray, Katie Steinle.  One of these things doesn't belong.  Which?  All became nationally publicized killings.  All senseless, and completely unnecessary deaths. One the result of an overzealous watch volunteer who found himself in over his head, leaving him only one recourse. Another a person of interest, who when questioned by police went on a rage, attempting to take the officer's gun, and leaving the officer with only one option. Another , openly violating NYC law, confronted by police who sized up the situation and overreacted. The fourth , brandishing an illegal knife arrested, and subsequently died in police custody.  The facts should come out in the upcoming trial, but whether justice is served is still to be determined.  Finally , a woman walking in a public place with her father, shot by an illegal immigrant having been deported 5 times and a felon.  The results of the killings? 1 . A trial that should never

Charity

char·i·ty ˈCHerədē/ noun 1 . the voluntary giving of help, typically in the form of money, to those in need. 2 . an organization set up to provide help and raise money for those in need. We often hear about the need to be charitable.  I agree, in fact I feel it is essential to our salvation.  Why am I writing about charity here, rather than on the rim ?  it is simple really.  Note the first definition.  Voluntary.  Whether you believe in charity from a religious point of view, or from a humanist point of view, the key to charity is that it is voluntary.  The second definition is a structured vehicle to aid those in need, whether it be the Red Cross, Salvation Army, various church charities, etc, The organization provides formal infrastructure to manage aid.  It is completely dependent on the first definition.  That it is voluntary.  Do we capture a reoccurring theme here? As it is voluntary, charity cannot take on a govern

DOCUMENTATION? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' DOCUMENTATION

No gay marriage discussion today.  This is going to be a rant about immigration, and what is happening. First, if any politician says that " we need new laws because our system is broken",  you need to call them out for being an outright LIAR .  Maybe before we say we need new laws, we should enforce the law as it is written.  I know, for many that is unacceptable.  Enforce laws?  Insane. Remember that, when there is a push for new legislation regarding immigration.  No respect for current law, no attempt to enforce current law.  Why would a new law be more likely to be enforced?  It won't. Before you write me off as a right wing crank regarding immigration,  I am not.  I realize that it is unrealistic to deport between 11 and 30 million illegals.  In fact, I argued in a paper that what we need is to issue IDs after passing back ground checks, and letting  them go where they may.  Enforce the law on employers.  That is where a major problem with immigration lies.
