here we go.

So, a new political blog for a release valve for my thoughts.  By lib, of course, I mean Libertarian.  I am tired of the "bipartisan" nature of our politics.  Really at this point, with a few exceptions, the Republicans have ceased to be the party of small government, and are now the party of not as big of government as the Democrats.  I want to make this a short intro, but a very important message that I wish that those Republicans in DC that still care about the small government premise would hear.

Anyone that has listened to Rush Limbaugh knows that he preaches that "Conservatism wins, every time is it on the ballot".  This is a very true statement.  The Republicans have run since Ronald Reagan, who was honest about his beliefs, Bush 41, who campaigned in '88 as a 3rd Reagan term.  He lost in '92 to Clinton because he lost his way, if it ever was his to begin with.  Dole in '96.  Bush 43 ran and won the electoral college (the only election that matters) in 2000.  He won as a war president in '04.  Then there was McCain, who had been considered briefly for the Dem VP in 2000, not conservative, and Romney in '12.  Romney is interesting as he probably was a conservative, but many sat out, because of Romneycare, which should have been repudiated, and he was a Mormon, which I believe did have an impact on evangelical Christians, who couldn't see past the theology at someone whose faith promoted many similar values.  He lost his election in '94 for the US Senate seat in Mass, to the murderer, Ted Kennedy.  Why?  He waffled on abortion.

The message that should be received from all of those elections is this!  If voters are given a choice between Democrat, and Democrat-lite,  they will choose the genuine article.  Why do I mention this?

Earlier this year, Netanyahu and his party won an election that they were supposed to either lose, OR eke out an election that would force them to cut a deal with the progressives in Israel.  All political punditry thought he would lose, all were wrong.

Last month, the Tories and David Cameron were thought to be heading to the ash heap of history in the election in Great Britian.  It was a consensus that even if they weren't wiped out, they would be forced to heap rewards on whoever joined in their coalition, assuming it would be the Tories calling the shots.  As the election turned out, not only did the Tories maintain their dominance, but that they had an outright majority in the House of Commons to govern outright, without a coalition.

Conservatives 2, political pundits/progressives 0.

In this country, I suspect that there is a comparable underlying current of conservative/libertarian thought.  Nixon referred to it as the Silent Majority.  If the Republicans were to put up a candidate that has some conservative/libertarian credentials, they win.  If they put up a "not as big government" establishment candidate, they lose.  Yes, conservative will sit out.  I mean, come on. The GOP said give us a Senate Majority and we will stop Amnesty, rein in spending, fix all the problems of the world, etc.  What happened?  Sold down the river.  If it comes down to Bush v Clinton, Clinton wins, as those small government supporters will not see a difference.

It is a start.  I have so much that I want to write.  Later.
