Is taxation theft? #taxationistheft

Collecting more taxes than absolutely necessary is legalized robbery-Calvin Coolidge

I like that nuanced description better than the simple taxation = theft.

How about another similar quote:

Why is it greed when I want to keep more of my money, but it is not greed when you want to keep more of my money?  Thomas Sowell.

I use the Thomas Sowell quote because that helps to establish the bar for what is necessary.

We the People.  Is how the Constitution begins.  And the purpose?

In order to form a more perfect union.  How the national government should be structured, with legislative, executive, and judicial branches, and how they interacted, and the checks and balances with each other.

Establish Justice, and Insure Domestic Tranquility.  When those inalienable rights granted by God are violated, there needs to be a court to adjudicate it.  This has been the case probably from the beginning of time, and in the Judeo tradition, before the Kings, Israel had judges, not to rule, but to solve disputes.  When rights are violated, the harmed party needs a place to be restored.  In the cases of death or injury, justice needs to be served.  Beyond that, what?  Speed limits?  Jaywalking?  Nativities in the public square?  Please.

Provide for the Common Defense.  Probably the single most collective responsibility of the United States government, and it has failed miserably.  Meddling in other nations is not defending the nation.  Securing the border is defending the nation.  We all look with horror at the possibility of children being gassed.  But who did it?  Where's the proof?  What did we learn from the complete failure of intelligence in the Iraq affair?  Better would it be to follow the creed of the libertarian.

Don't tread on ANYONE.

Promote the General Welfare  the most misunderstood line of the preamble.  More damage has been done using this clause as an excuse than probably any other.  It did not mean welfare the way we understand it today.  It meant that the federal government provided an environment for all to thrive.  As Benjamin Franklin said:  "You are only guaranteed the pursuit of happiness, catching it is up to you."  Taking money from one citizen to give to another in the name of the government is theft. Period.

Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity.  The result, or covenant between the federal government and the people.  Read that line again.  We do it ourselves.

Now, I know.  Don't tell me about the slaves.  It is a dead argument.

We just passed Tax Day.  Thomas Sowell often said we should hold elections on April 15.  There was a time when that might have made a difference, but now with the top 20% paying 95% of the income taxes, that ship may have sailed. Nearly half, by the way, pay no income tax.  Tragic.  With no skin in the game, they are free to vote for higher and higher taxes on the rich, and face no penalty.  At least until the "rich" decide to stop producing and are content to live on what they have, or, move.  It has happened before, and will again.  Then what?  Since I have been quoting people throughout, I will leave it with this one.

The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money  Margaret Thatcher.

I know socialism is the right's racism equivalent.  swap out "greed for other people's money" and it still

beyond that?  robbery.  you know, we should pay more attention to Silent Cal.
