Too many

First, let me start by acknowledging the passing of Dr. Charles Krauthammer.  He was a Pulitzer Prize winning author for the Washington Post, and conservative commentator.  He was a quadriplegic, having suffering an accident in his first year of medical school.  He completed school, and was a psychiatrist before his career as a commentator.  He was often a voice of reason, though not without fault.  He advocated for an activist policy in the Middle East, including the war in Iraq, which in retrospect was a mistake.  Easy to say now, but what most people forget is that EVERYONE thought that Iraq had WMDs, and that was a reason to NOT attack them.

Laws know no passion, no emotion.  Justice is indeed blind.  Or should be.  Feelings have no place in the legal system.  But for laws to be effective, they must be few, well defined, and vigorously enforced.  Miss any of those, and the law ceases to be the law, and becomes a tool used by those in power to advance an agenda.  Enforce this one, don't enforce that one, depending on the day, or the motives of the enforcer.  Why mention this?

Lawmakers everywhere are bemoaning the treatment of illegal immigrants, and their children.  They have no right to do so.  These people are on our dime, jetting from point A to point B, fundraising here and there.  What are they not doing?  Addressing the issues of our time.  Pealing back law after worthless law.  Federal laws are legion, and then add on state and local statutes and ordinances, and laws cease to have meaning, other than to be used by man against man.  They also complain about the enforcement of federal drug laws.  Look, I think that I have pointed out that these laws are wrong, and that our society would be significantly improved by removing them from the books.  Not that I advocate making yourself a slave to a substance, but because one should have the freedom to decide to do so, or not.

The question at hand is whether to enforce or not.  On this issue, I have been consistent in advocating enforcement, with the intent of putting pressure on Congress to do their freakin' job.  I know, cruel, right?  But why enforce them?  Because if a president chooses to not enforce a law, they are favoring this group, or that one.  A tool used against a group, or individual.

So let the whiners on the Hill complain.  And they will, and they will use the issue in their re-election campaigns, to fight against the man.  And you know what?  They won't be held to account.  With a huge advantage to incumbents, and the apathy of the American people, they will continue to go back to Washington, and pass new laws that may or may not be enforced.

The anger I feel towards those lawmakers is indescribable.  Lines are drawn, scoring political points is more important than finding those that would be willing to work on resolving the issue.

The president proposes streamlining assistance programs, combining departments, and eliminating redundancy, and what is the establishment worried about?  Those federal employees that are working in DC.  What will happen to their jobs?  What will they do?  The only way to save money is to do what President Trump has proposed, at least put the discussion in play.  Yet the screaming at the possibility is only a harbinger of what would happen if actual legislation is proposed to act.

Nothing will change unless change is demanded.  And change won't be demanded unless there is discomfort, and pain.  And Congress won't act unless they are feeling the pain that their constituents are experiencing.

Trump is acting because the laws exist that allow him to do so.  This is probably more libertarian than any recent president in memory.  Should those laws exist?  NO!  But they do, and have been found Constitutional. In fact, it is because of the 9th Circus Court that children of illegal immigrants are being separated from their parents.

Too many laws means no law.  Time to repeal.   It is the only way to ease the pain.  Start acting like lawmakers, and stop whining.
