Random Thoughts.
I know, a used title. Lots of views from the BSA piece, thanks for that. Not much movement on that. Lots of things happening, Rather than get deeply wrapped up on individual items, thought I may just provide some quick hits.
With the evidence of Planned Parenthood's body shop so strong that they have had to resort to a judge to get relief, the Republicans in the Senate are not able to gather enough votes to overcome Planned Parenthood's minions to strip funding. This concerns me mostly as a statement that no matter how heinous the bureaucracy that is being funded, there are those who snap their fingers, and it will be preserved. Even a hard core libertarian president, such as Ron Paul, (not Rand, but the hard core version) would struggle to get congress to do anything to cut the legions in DC. Ultimately, it would require a President to essentially ignore Congress, and veto everything, and when that doesn't work, would probably have to do those things that conservatives despise, use Executive Orders to drain the swamp.
The Donald is saying what people want to hear. He has to provide depth to his positions for his campaign to truly have longevity, but the GOP needs to be warned. He has awakened the base. The majority in this country want immigration reform, I want reform. However the majority wants the BORDERS CLOSED, before we deal with the illegals that are already here. The fact that only Ted Cruz has stood openly with Trump concerns me. People see that Trump is not beholden to the establishment donor types. If he goes rogue, I would still say that if it is Trump vs Bush vs Clinton, I would put money on Trump.
It was pathetic to see Chris Matthews on MSNBC as an old school Democrat begging the head of the DNC, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to explain the difference between the Democratic party and Socialists. This question is very important, as an avowed Socialist, Senator Bernie Sanders, I-VT, is running for the Democratic Nomination for president. There was a time when there was a difference, but the lines have blurred to the point that the only answer that she could come up with is that it was the difference between the Democrats and Republicans that mattered. Days later on Meet the Press with Chuck Todd, he asked her the same question, and got the same answer. The press was desperately trying to get her to show the difference, knowing that Americans have a gut reaction to the term socialist, and if Senator Sanders were to win the nomination, that it could pose a big problem as it could cause all those working democrats that they need to win to either not show, or vote for the GOP. (Reagan Democrats) It has happened before. It could again.
It looks like there are a couple of problems that were somehow COMPLETELY unexpected in Seattle. The increase in the minimum wage, with the intent of making it a living wage, doesn't seem to work as planned. It seems that those that earn that wage would rather not work as many hours, and keep their state assistance, rather than making it on their own. Wasn't the point of increasing the minimum wage, and having restaurants close, reduce staff, and/or raise prices, to get people off assistance?
The CEO that slashed his salary, so that his employees could all have a $70,000 a year salary is having some more of those unexpected troubles. The higher performing employees are unhappy as those working at a much lower level are now making the same amount as they are. The CEO's brother, who was a co-founder of the company, has sued because the profits of the company have plummeted, talent is leaving, and they are hemorrhaging clients. Every one is asking why? Check out the story of the 20th Century Motor Company in Atlas Shrugged, and what happened there.
Quick hits on policy origins.
Minimum wage- implemented by Democrats in the New Deal to limit the ability of blacks to work for less than the prevailing wage.
Planned Parenthood-previously mentioned, but always worth another time. Margaret Sanger founded the group and put them in the inner cities, so that they could begin their genocide on "undesirables" as she called them. Mostly black.
Jim Crow Laws- enacted by democrats to limit the movement of blacks, and to make sure they knew their place.
Remember who stands for what, and why.
