Which way?
Donald Trump has struck a chord with the American people. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, it is true. He is not my fave, and pretty sure I wouldn't vote for him, but if the choice was Bush, Clinton, or Trump, I would probably vote Trump, as, if nothing else, he is anti Washington Cartel. (Cruz's word, love it!)
Rand Paul was the only person to stand up for the Constitution in the debate Thursday night. He has been hammered by the Beltway press for what they considered a weak performance. I don't have rose colored glasses here, but also know that if the commentators, most of whom are establishment government types, are against you, then maybe you were successful. Of course spin is everything when it comes to cash, and people won't support a someone perceived to be a loser. Paul has a legit plan for the tax code, and he understands that trading freedom for the perception of security (usually all it is, just an image), gives you neither. He also wants to follow the Constitution when it comes to war, and foreign entanglements.
By the way, just for clarification, when I say that the media are generally establishment types, I mean that whether I refer to the broadcast nets, the cable nets, or even FOX, they are almost all in the big government is good camp. The Blaze, and many on the Fox Business Network, are more anti-big gov types, and of course on FOX there is the Judge, Andrew Napolitano. Ask him about Rand's performance. Could you imagine the nets if a newly inaugurated President Paul announced that he was going to RIF (reduction in force) half of the federal government by the end of his first term? The hysterics would be popcorn worthy.
Want money out of politics? Get politics out of business. Businesses, including Trump's, pay protection money to politicians in exchange for two things. 1. to get the government to leave them alone, 2. to get special breaks from the government in the form of regulation, tax credits/subsidies, and 3. to get the government to punish smaller businesses or competitors. Okay, I said two, and there are three. No different than the local thug on the corner. After all, if there was a flat tax on business, oh, I don't know, say 14.5%, what incentive is there to buy a politician? If the government plays businesses equally, why pay? Equality of outcome cannot be guaranteed, only opportunity. Is it hard to take on an established business? Yes. And yet it has happened, and happened, again, and again.
If I were a ROTT (Republican other than Trump) I would say that to stop Trump from completely sucking the air out of my campaign, I would jump on the immigration bandwagon, with a legitimate plan to address the issue. I like the idea of having someone fund the wall on the border. One suggestion would be to put a tax on remittances leaving the country. The third largest industry in Mexico after Oil and, Tourism, is money from the US. If we add that to the money already allocated for the fence/wall (where is that money by the way?) A large part of it could be completed, if not all. Also, I wonder what impact that would have on immigrants, both legal, and illegal?
There are so many things I want to write. If you have read this far, I have a question. Should I be more in depth, or do you like the quick hits? I could easily write pages, but, while I am doing this mostly for myself, I know that at least one or two people read, and so am curious. Let me know, in whatever media you choose to use. Please?
