Now, eyes have to be open.
“It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep."
A Trump tweet. It certainly sounds like him doesn't it? I mean, he epitomizes the quote to a tee. Just one problem. It is a Benito Mussolini quote. That is right, the fascist dictator of Italy, ally of Adolf Hitler. Of course, if there was a liberal reading this, they would say, see, Republicans are fascists. Of course, my liberal friends, the founding fathers of the progressive movement, like Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, all felt that Mussolini's brand of Socialism (yes, fascism is just a form of socialism) was the cat's meow. They all felt that his model was the perfect model.
It boggles my mind that Jeff Sessions, R-AL, came out yesterday to support Trump. It doesn't boggle my mind that Chris Christie, R-governor of NJ supports him.
If Trump wins the nomination, and wins the general, it will confirm to all those centrists, that what liberals have always said about Republicans, comparing to Hitler, all are true. And if he wins, they would be right. This is not the Republican party that I have supported. It would reveal to all that it is a party of a different power base of big government, rather than a party of small government, based on individual liberty.
In fact, that Mussolini quote fits right in with his statement a few weeks ago that he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue, and his supporters will still vote for him. A dictator in the making.
Right now, I am not prepared to say that Trump would be worse than Secretary Clinton. I would say that Trump would build on the Executive Power that President Obama has stolen from Congress. (not unlike the power grab by Justice Marshall in the early days of the Republic, in creating a power of Judicial Review for the Supreme Court) I think that Secretary Clinton would at least pay lip service to the Constitution. I don't think that Trump cares.
One can't help those that choose to not be informed. That is the main driver of our problems today. Our republic, or what is left of it, is devolving into a quasi-democracy, ruled by the mob. And if Trump wins, it will be the mob that put him in.
Those that follow what is going on can no longer hide behind the populist movement, and say things like "he is just saying what we all are thinking" NO, I am NOT thinking that we need a dictator, regardless of party. I wouldn't care if he enacted everything that I wanted. "No one should have that kind of power" (John Galt to Head of State Thompson, Atlas Shrugged) NO ONE! He loves fascists, he is a fascist, and may bring down the Republican party. A whole other post for that one. For now, if he can't be stopped, we will get the government that we deserve. Conservatives in the Congress will be surprised when Trump goes around them like President Obama. Liberals will be shocked at how it feels when someone uses the IRS and the Justice Department against the. The Press will be speechless, literally, at his destruction of their constitutional right. All I can say is...
He told us so. We are not in the dark anymore.
