Single Payer.
The Affordable Care Act was meant to fail. That is right. Even Democrats knew that if implemented as passed it would be a disaster of such magnitude that their party could be destroyed. So portions were implemented, you know, the feel good, no one wants to argue. Health care for that dependent living in your basement until he or she is 26. No preexisting condition denials. Fantastic, right? So what about the rest? The corporate mandate? No way. They saw what happened with the threat. Hours cut. Full time work in service industry destroyed. The 800 lb. donkey in the room is still hiding in the closet, because they didn't think the results would be this bad, and they KNOW it will only get worse when it is fully implemented. So, where do we turn, now that we have created a whole new group of entitlement junkies?
If only government ran healthcare, top to bottom. They could control costs, they could streamline the process. STOP LAUGHING! It could happen. After all, the government does have a single payer system. NO, STOP IT, IT ISN'T FUNNY! And when I say that, I really mean it. By the way, slamming the VA should not be construed as an attack on all VA employees. I have no doubt that there are many very hard working and caring people in the VA. They just don't get a lot of press. Thank you, for those that are working tirelessly.
The VA is a one stop healthcare provider for our Veterans. These men and women deserve the best this country can offer them. No joke. They should be put in limos and taken to the doctor, or hospital. The VA should be a shining star. Something that those that love government programs, and even those that dislike government programs should all point to and say, "you know? that works". The progressive would then go on to say that it is a perfect example of how to run health care.
Come on. When the VA scandal broke, it was an opportunity for the Administration to show it would do something, to make this agency worthy of the Vets, and an example of how single payer can work in this country. Problem. That requires hard work. It requires accountability, not shuffling people from one job to another, hoping no one notices. For goodness' sake, they had over 1.4 MILLION DROPS on their suicide hotline. People died waiting to be seen for a diagnosis. Well, we can 't fire them, it really isn't their fault. it is the system's. Which, by the way, may be the first time that I have ever heard a progressive blame a progressive failure on the system rather than the now discredited idiot that ran it. Of course, one of the fixes put in is about to break. The system that allows Vets to go elsewhere for treatment, is now about to go under, as the VA is not paying those doctors and hospitals that treated the Vets in good faith for payment. Maybe that is what Bernie meant when he said it was FREE!?
A tip for a progressive, if one somehow gets elected. While the VA is operating at its normal bureaucratic pace, single payer will always have that as the example. You have to clean up the example. Make it work. Literally fire the people that have brought such discredit. Refer them to the Department of Justice for possible prosecution. If you can't run the VA, how do you expect to run healthcare for all? Like the DMV? Clean it up. make it work, if possible. It is the perfect opportunity. No risk pools, no denied coverage. And people that desperately need the help. It is a win win. Except for those that are fired. But how much sympathy is there for an employee that put a PTSD patient on hold?
Can you imagine, being the one that actually fixed the VA? People would probably support whatever it was you wanted to accomplish.
Just a few thoughts.
