are there any principled politicians? yes
At least one. How do you recognize one? Simple. When their party is in the majority, do they:
Maintain their personal beliefs, even when their party is diametrically opposed? Some will say that they are there to vote the will of their constituents. BS. They were elected because of who they are, and what they professed, that they were trusted to vote in the best interests of their state or district.
Actively work against their party when it is putting up a smoke screen so the voters don't see what they are doing? It is one thing to maintain your pro-life stance, and vote against genocide funding, it is another entirely to rise up in opposition to your party, when they are not doing what they said they would when they campaigned.
Rise up on behalf of America against all enemies, mostly domestic? How many politicians will argue even against the will of the population? Democracy really is self destructive, without any checks. We are borrowing one million dollars a minute. We don't care as long as we get our FREE!
There are few politicians that one can answer in the affirmative. Do I have any in mind? I wouldn't be writing if I didn't. He should have been president. He might be in the future.
There were a couple of reasons the GOP lost the Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008.
Of course the Iraq war, even though it had been won.
A very charismatic black Senator from IL as the Democrat nominee
Probably the most important reason is that the GOP had been relatively frugal during the Clinton years, but under W, spent in a way that would embarrass drunken sailors. The "conservative" party lost its way in one party rule. Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Luckily, their is a Senator that the GOP should be listening to. After all, they only have a 52-48 majority, and so the defection of even one Senator could be a problem.
Senator Rand Paul R-KY, essentially threw down the gauntlet today regarding the budget. Under the auspices of repealing Obamacare, the GOP attached a budget blueprint with a predicted 9.7 trillion dollar addition to the National Debt. That's $9,700,000,000,000.00 Just months ago, the GOP campaigned pointing out that President Obama had doubled the debt in his eight years. Here is the link to the video. 21 minutes long, it is worth watching,

They will have to listen, I think, as the numbers are not in the GOP majority's favor.
Like father, like son. We should always be grateful.
