The State of the Union has come and gone. I knew that Stacy Abrams, chosen by the DNC to respond, would be entertaining. I didn't realize it would be that entertaining. President Trump sounded presidential, she appeared with a group behind her, but as she spoke it seemed that she was outlined like being in front of a green screen, and not the audience. She sounded shrill, as if the President had also spoken that way.
If the House and Senate Democrats weren't suffering from extreme TDS, they would see that the President would be willing to bend over his base on DACA, and as we heard, paid family medical leave, in exchange for a wall, or fence, or barrier. Trump is still the most apolitical president in a generation. I guess I should be grateful that they haven't realized it. The President claimed we aren't and would never be a Socialist nation, and yet he called for new entitlement programs like a Trumpcare health care system, paid medical leave, and price fixes on prescription drugs. Hmm.
The plot in Virginia has thickened considerably in the last 24 hours. There are calls for Governor Northam (D) to resign. That isn't surprising, after all he called killing babies after they were born acceptable. What? That isn't why? Nope, it is the blackface in his yearbook 35 years ago. Yup, infanticide okay, blackface? Fry him. Something is wrong severely. But that is the tip of the iceberg.
The Lt . Governor Justin Fairfax (D) has his own Kavanaugh situation. Of course it is not nearly as dated. He is accused of harassment at the DNC convention No evidence, so he said/she said. Democrats are in a real pickle here. After all, they were all in on #Ibelieveher during Kavanaugh, now what? To be consistent, Fairfax should resign, right? And the hits keep on playing
The Virginia Attorney General, Mark Herring (D), third in line should both of the above resign, has now admitted to dressing in blackface back in the day. Based on the above, he should step aside as well, leaving the Speaker for the House of Delegates, Kirk Cox (R), next in line for the governorship, should the others resign. That is right, a Republican. Just sayin.
Is it just me, or does it seem that the progressives are going for the fence lately? You know, Casey at the bat sort of thing? No more half measures, no pretending to have to be frugal, (that is bipartisan, to be honest) Universal health care, banning private insurance. Free tuition. Universal basic income. No border control. A wealth tax. A punitive income tax. Are they really that ignorant? That wasn't what I wanted to write, but I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt. It is fun though, to watch the old bastion of the Democrat party squirm with these out and proud socialists pushing hard. Of course, Casey did strike out. The problem is that with all of these people escaping totalitarianism in their own lands, coming here, what do they support? Turning the US into their fill in the blank hellhole.
Howard Schultz, the former CEO of the very progressive Starbucks Coffee, is thinking about running for President. His progressive cred should be without question. I don't mean that as good or bad, he exemplified that businesses should determine their benefits and wages, and not the government. One would think he would run as a Democrat, and believe me, those in the party wish he would. He isn't. Why? Because the party has been hijacked by those who think that government should be forcing corporations to do what Starbucks did, and even more. He realizes that there is no way he wins a primary in the Democrat party, because he will not kowtow to the far left base that has taken over. If he does run, it will be as an independent, and while both parties worry about what that means, it is the DNC that is in a state of shock and going into full attack mode. Why is that?
Because he knows, as do both parties, that they have alienated the middle. And the middle holds the keys to power. He is definitely left of center, and he will find all of those independents repulsed by Trump looking for a any candidate that doesn't want to enslave the working class. Could he win running as an independent?
I don't think he gets to 270. But he doesn't have to. The demographics right now tilt to the Democrat party, and will continue in that direction. Many of those states that Trump won in 2016 were states that were burned by the pseudo progressive Hillary. A strong middle of the road independent could completely skew the battleground states, possibly winning some (or a lot of) electoral votes, maybe denying either candidate 270 votes. If that were the case, then all eyes are on the House, where each state delegation has one vote for President. And the Senate, which votes for VP.
2020 has already begun, and it promises to be even more fun than 2016.
