Travel Ban-9, 9th and 4th Circuits-0, and so much more

Senator and Mrs. Sanders are under investigation for fraud by the FBI.  He claims it is politically motivated.  Funny that he would be under investigation for the same crimes he accuses Wall Street of committing on a regular basis.

Every one loved Bernie.  He was the one speaking truth to power.  Or so he said.  What he didn't say, was that for all of the things that he wanted to do, taxes would have to go up on more than just the rich.  Had he been honest, he would have said that his proposals would have required somewhere around a 40% income tax rate on every one earning $50,000 a year or more.  I would have given him credit for that, but he knew that wouldn't sell.  For those that advocate single payer healthcare, be honest.  Tell everyone that they will see a minimum of $1,000 a month increase in taxes to pay for it.

Since I last wrote, the California legislature has shelved single payer health care for the time being.  Apparently the fact that the cost of it ALONE would double California's current state budget may have had something to do with it.  Vermont tried this two years ago, and, surprisingly enough, shelved it, as their cost estimates were waaaaayyy too low. (It also doubled their budget, so it has gone the way of the dodo bird.)

By the way, what would undoubtedly be the model for a federal government single payer program?  The VA.  It IS a single payer system, a system where hundreds of thousands have been alleged to have died while waiting for care.

Maybe Senator McConnell, R-KY, read my blog?  (Probably not), but he threatened the conservatives in the Senate, that if they can't unite on the healthcare bill (Ocare Redux) he will be forced to deal with Senator Schumer, D-NY, on "Fixing" Ocare.  I am not sure at this point that Sen. Schumer would even consider it, but who knows.  Maybe they should do that first, and get it out in the open.  Get Democrat Senators to go on record as saying that, Ocare doesn't need fixing, or, that it is broken, and here are some solutions.

I read a piece on Avik Roy, who is a conservative version of Ezekiel Emmanuel (one of the architects of Ocare).  He LOVES the Senate plan.  He did a recent interview with VOX, a far left news site, and explained the good, the bad, and why he supports it.  Two takeaways

Medicaid spending is NEVER cut through the time period reviewed by the CBO, and

Even though the CBO says that 23 million will not be covered, it is BECAUSE THEY ARE CHOOSING TO NOT BE COVERED!  Not from being thrown off their insurance.

I received my response from Congresswoman Jenkins, R-KS.  She talked about the tax reform that is moving through the Ways and Means Committee, but did not answer why she voted for repeal back in 2015, and won't now.

The Supremes, in an UNANIMOUS decision, said that they would hear the case of  the Travel Ban in October, but they were going to lift the Stay issued by lower courts.  They pointed out that it has always been the President that dictates immigration policy, and so are deferring to that for now.  Most court watchers concede that this is a strong signal to how they will rule in the actual case.  I guess the words of the Executive Order were what they used to judge it, rather than some bombastic campaign speech.

In a 7-2 decision, they also made a strong statement regarding Religious Freedom.  A Lutheran run Day Care Center had applied for a grant to upgrade their playground.  The state denied it, citing Separation of Church and State laws.  Along those lines, they agreed to hear the case of a baker who declined to bake a cake for wedding reception for a gay couple.

You know, the only thing that would have made this better would be for an announcement of Justice Kennedy's retirement.  Well, it could still happen.
