Defending Trump. what? what?
Drudge said "Trump vs the World. I say it is THE PEOPLE vs DC!
If you have read here, you know how much pain it causes me to make a case for Trump.
No wonder the GOP is hurting as a brand, as a party, and a political force. It is because they SUCK at politics, and governing! Of course, easy for me to observe, no longer a member of the GOP, but I think most people I know will tend to agree with what I am saying.
It is a lengthy post, as I want to provide depth, but here is the short version.
Trump won the primary. He was Trump then, he is Trump now. A newcomer to politics, he appeals to THE PEOPLE for that reason. He is not beholden to the party. In fact, the party tried to keep him out. Did I mention that Trump jumped through all the hoops and won? The only thing the party can take comfort in is that he defeated the hated Ted Cruz. Combine that with them getting Cruz on board as they are jumping off, and they see it as a win. They don't even care if they lose the Presidency, proof that the parties are really two sides of the same coin. They might even want it, to eliminate the outsiders.
I read the headline in the local paper today that Simpson (House), and Crapo (Senate), have distanced themselves from Trump. All over the country, elitist GOP members are bolting. I AM INFURIATED BY THIS! Right now it is as if the Titanic is sinking, and they are putting on dresses and getting on the lifeboats. Trump is Trump. Why is everyone acting surprised? Why are they running away? THE PEOPLE selected Trump in the primary. Are you against THE PEOPLE? You know the answer. It has always been the answer for the Democrats. Now we know that the GOP is the same.
For the record. Kudos to Reince Priebus for standing with Trump. For now. Now background.
In 2008, they nominated a milquetoast that was once considered for the VP slot on the Democrat ticket in 2000. John McCain is a war hero, no matter what anyone says, but he is no conservative. About as Beltway as they come.
In 2010, the Democrats, with a Filibuster proof majority declined to address immigration reform, and other issues, focusing on the nirvana of central planners everywhere, healthcare. It passed on a reconciliation vote. Senator Kennedy died, and Massachusetts elected a Republican which gave the Republicans enough votes to stop the legislation. Reconciliation is a simple majority vote, no filibuster. It was the only way. The result?
In the Midterms, the GOP dominated, crushing the Democrats in the House, and if not for a few bad candidates in the Senate, would have taken the Senate as well. Why? Because they said that if we elected them, they would stop all the destruction the President was causing. Did they? um, no.
In 2012, The GOP nominated a moderate former Governor of a very Blue State. He had spent the last four years on his trail to conservatism, but many were not convinced. Combine that with the fact that he had a terrible ground game, and his chief supporter hugging the President on the Jersey shore doomed him. (being a Mormon didn't help with the evangelical vote.)
In 2014, after 5 years of a horrible economic recovery, ISIS on the move in the middle east, the Democrats were wiped out in the Senate. Surely with a GOP majority in both Houses, there would be change. We were promised that, right? You wouldn't be more wrong. They rolled. they held on hoping for the courts to override the President's Amnesty. They did, but with the death of Justice Scalia, everything is at risk.
In 2016 the GOP nominated a brash, apolitical megalomaniac. He said the things that THE PEOPLE wanted to hear. He advanced policies that THE PEOPLE have been begging for. For too long, the GOP, (and the Dems, for that matter) didn't care about THE PEOPLE, except at election time. The GOP's golden boy JEB! and the governors, were out right after the primaries began. THE PEOPLE wanted someone to listen. They found him, in spite of the party, in Trump.
This wasn't an american only event. In Israel (the only true democracy in the Middle East), in the UK, first with an election of the Tories (conservative party) who were an outright majority, with no need to form a coalition. This was followed by BREXIT, which caused the down fall of the Tory Prime Minster, who enlisted President Obama in an attempt to defeat it, THE PEOPLE in democracies world wide are rejecting the Globalist world.
Now Trump is Trump, and Republicans are heading for the exits. Critical mistake, maybe fatal for the party (which is not a bad thing). I think THE PEOPLE will speak, and DC will never be the same.
